The Whiteford Township Board approved its 2012 road contracts as presented by Bob Schnipke, the township roads supervisor.
Here are the township roads that are planned for construction in 2012:
Smith Rd., from Whiteford Rd. to Bedford Township.
Sylvania-Petersburg Rd., from Yankee Rd. to the state line.
Lynch Rd., from Clark Rd. to the county line.
Seegert Rd., from Memorial Hwy. to the county line.
Temperance Rd., from Sylvania-Petersburg to Head-O-Lake Rds.
Samaria Rd., from Bacon to Stone Quarry Rds.
Whiteford Rd., from St. Anthony to School Rds.
Piehl Rd., from Whiteford Rd. to Bedford Township.
Summerfield Rd., from Rauch Rd. to School Rd.
Rauch Rd., from US-23 to Summerfield Rd.
The township will spend about $205,000 on the road projects.
The township also approved a contract for Whiteford Rd., from Section Rd. to the state line, but the work is not likely to be done until 2013. Mr. Schnipke did say, however, that some of the roughest portions of the road will be leveled this year in preparation for the work in 2013.
The board has also given the okay for major projects on Clark Rd., from Yankee to Memorial Hwy., Yankee Rd. from Clark to the county line and replacing a culvert on Yankee Rd.
The Monroe County Road Commission has been awarded a $100,000 High-Risk Rural Road Grant to make improvements on Whiteford Center Rd. in Whiteford Township.
Some preliminary surveys have been done already on the job, which road commission Engineer Scott Assemmacher called a “safety grant.”
Improvments will be made to the ditches and some fixed objects along the road, like trees, will be removed. The road commission will be working in the area between Temperance and St. Anthony Rd., about 1.5 miles.
